In October 2007 Derek travelled to South Africa for a 10 Day Trip where he played several concerts with the Julian Bahula Band. Julian is a South African who lives in the UK, and was returning to his homeland for the first time since a horrific car crash several years ago that left him in a coma. The band included top UK and local Musicians, including Geoff Castle (Keys/MD), Dave Lewis (Sax), Earl Lewis (Bass), Phil Dawson (Guitar), Jonathan Joseph (Drums, Miami), Claude Deppa (Trumpet, originally from Cape Town), and Seepo (Trombone, Johannesburg). During the trip, Derek played concerts in J/burg for top politicians and record company executives, and also in Pretoria. Special highlight was staying at "The Farm" where 38 Lions live alongside you, as well as Cheetahs, Warthogs, Zebra and a myriad of exotic birds.
